AKT-KIX offers the unique opportunity for the processing of by-products with low capitalization and the potential to produce total feed as a part of the process.

The KIX dehydrator allows offals from fish, poultry and meat processing operations to be dehydrated and combined with cereals in one operation to make complete compound feeds.

Direct dehydration of offals is difficult without excessive heat damage to the protein and the production of excessive free fat that has to be separated from the dried material. Processing combinations of mixed offals and ground cereals can be carried out using the AKT-KIX system. This is done without using common rendering techniques involving steam, preheating or fat separation equipment.

This system has been proven successful for the processing various levels of poultry, fish (and fish silage) and beef offals. The combined meal is processed through the AKT-KIX dehydrator to produce a cereal based meal with boosted protein and fat levels.

These are some of the process advantages:

· Very low capital costs.
· There is NO liquid phase to heat or discharge.
· The ground cereal acts as a carrier for the proteinaceous material and prevents protein sticking to the dehydrator surfaces.
· Ground cereal dilutes the fat content and allows the incorporation of fat within the meal rather than as a free fat.
· The premixing of cereals with wet offals results in the gelatinisation of a proportion of the cereal starch during dehydration and thus improves the digestibility of the carbohydrate.
· Indications are that the process also results in a high level of fat encapsulation within both protein and the dextrinised starch components. This makes the fat content of the combination meal very stable against: oxidative reactions.
· The combination meal has free flowing characteristics and is easy handle.
